2004: El interés de Garrix

Martin Garrix aprendió a tocar la guitarra a los ocho años. En 2004, Garrix expresó su interés en convertirse en DJ después de ver a Tiësto tocar en los Juegos Olímpicos de Atenas. Tomó como inspiración el sencillo "Traffic", que lo impulsó a descargar un software especializado llamado FL Studio lo que le permitió a empezar a componer. Al principio producía Hardstyle, hacia remezclas no oficiales de Christina Aguilera y tocaba en las fiestas de sus padres con el alias "DJ Marty".

2012: Inicios

Su primera canción fue "ITSA" co-producida con Sleazy Stereo publicada el día 9 de mayo por el sello Crowd Control.

Más tarde el día 3 de septiembre Garrix lanza "Keygen" a través del sello Spinnin' Records.

El 5 de octubre lanza un remix de "Midnight Sun 2.0", canción de Roy Gates.

El 12 de noviembre lanza "BFAM", una co-producción con Julian Jordan. El nombre de la canción es la abreviatura de "Brothers From Another Mother", en español "Hermanos De Otra Madre".

En 2012, ganó el Nightlife Award y el premio al DJ revelación del año durante el SLAM! FM.

Su remix de la canción "Your Body" fue editado como "Your Body (Martin Garrix Remix)" en una edición especial del álbum de Christina Aguilera, "Lotus".

In December 2014, DJ Snake's remix of the AlunaGeorge song "You Know You Like It" was released on Island Records. "You Know You Like It" reached number one on Billboard'sDance/Mix Show Airplay chart and Rhythmic Songs chart in June 2015. It peaked at 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The same month, the Associated Press listed the remix as the 8th most streamed track on Spotifyin the United States. In November 2015, the song received RIAA double-platinum certification.

For the remix, DJ Snake used a fusion of European dance music and hip hop beats. It took him about four hours to write. The collaboration was done via the Internet, with the vocals emailed to DJ Snake, who worked in Paris.^[46]

It peaked at 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. In June, Time Magazine named it one of the "Best Songs of 2015 So Far" In September 2015, "Lean On" was named Spotify's global song of the summer. In November 2015, the song surpassed 526 million Spotify plays, making it the service's most streamed song ever.

The video for "Lean On" was released in March 2015. It was shot in India and directed by Tim Erem. Amplifymagazine named "Lean On" one of "The Best Videos of 2015". In January 2016, the "Lean On" video reached 1 billion views on YouTube.
